French Toast is a contagious comparisons word game. Try to guess an item by asking if it’s more like one thing or another thing, starting with the question “Is it more like [random item] or French toast?”

Rules:

• The starting player chooses a word. (Let’s say apple.)
• The remaining players take turns asking comparison questions with the first question being “Is it more like [random item] or French toast?”(Let’s say “Is it more like a boat or French toast?”)
• The starting player answers “It is more like French toast?”
• The next player asks another question using the last question’s answer, which in this case is still French Toast. (Let’s say “Is it more like a banana or French toast?”)
• The starting player answers “It is more like a banana?”
• The next player asks “Is it more like an apple or a banana?”
• The starting player reveals you won!

Fortunately/Unfortunately is storytelling game. Starting with a player that begins the story with one sentence. “Today, I got a pet turtle.” The next person starts their sentence with unfortunately. “Unfortunately, the turtle ran away.” The following player starts their sentence with fortunately. “Fortunately, he was not very fast.” This continues until the story comes to a natural conclusion or you reach your destination.

We keep a deck of family friendly cards in the car for an impromptu game, but you could make up your own questions. In this card game, players are forced to make tough decisions between 2 equally terrible or fabulous options. Cards include hilarious questions like- Would you rather be the funniest person alive or the smart person alive? Have to go outside to use the bathroom like a dog or use a litter box like a cat?

In this game we pick a category like animals, food, or movies. The players take turns naming something in that category in alphabetical order. We usually give hints to see if we could make it to Z. If you want a more competitive game, when a player is unsuccessful at giving an answer, they gain a point and the next player must answer or they get a point and so on. If no one can answer the game continues with the next letter.

Pick a card, read the seemingly easy topic, then start the timer! With only 5 seconds to name 3 things that fit the topic, it doesn’t seem so easy. Players get tongue-tied, funny answers come flying out and laughter is sure to follow in this fast-paced game. You can easily come up with your own questions, like things that are red, Disney princesses, jungle animals, etc.

The Category Game is a simple and fun word game where players take turns saying words that belong to a specific category. The goal is to think of words that fit within the chosen category without repeating any previous answers. To add challenge, you can set a time limit for each player to respond. For example, players may have 5 seconds to come up with their answer. The game continues until a player can’t think of a word that fits the category or repeats a word that has already been said. The last player to give a valid word wins!

“20 Questions” is a popular go-to guessing game where one player thinks of an object, person, or place, and the other player(s) try to guess it by asking up to 20 yes-or-no questions. The goal is to figure out what the chosen object is with the fewest questions possible.

This is not your typical car game, but it works for us rather well. We don’t usually keep score or divide into teams. If you have enough players you could. Someone other than the driver reads the card and we shout out answers.
